April/With the government showing no sign to draft new constituion on time, the
main opposition UCPN (Maoist) on Monday called for a nation wide indefinite
general strike starting May 2.
As the government remained unfazed by mass
protest of May 1st the party has decided to launch indefinite strike, Maoists
said.
In a press interaction program organised in the
capital yesterday, Maoist Chairman Prachada said the movement will be centred
on major towns across the country including the capital. Major mass movement
will be held in Kathmandu.
“We have declared the indefinite political strike
from May 2 for peace and constitution out of compulsion,” said Prachanda,
addressing the press meet.
The Maoists have also announced to launch mass
demonstration on May 1, the International Labour Day, to pressure the
government to step down.
However, the Maoist chairman said the party will
be open for dialogue and consensus even in the midst of strike.
Prachanda, the hero of Nepalese people\\\'s war
appealed to industries, transportation and educational institutions to take the
presser as the third people’s movement and keep the institutions shut during
the strike.
